There is a hissing noise coming from my Total PA Glow. What can I do to prevent this?

The Total PA Glow is a 400 Watt powered PA speaker capable of reaching large audiences over a wide distance.  Any PA speaker of this type will produce some amount of hiss when turned up. This is normal.

If the noise seems too loud, this may be because the level of the incoming audio source is too low, and the speaker output is turned up higher to compensate. This is a common mistake in live sound and is easy to remedy by correcting a few levels and settings.

The solution is to appropriately increase the volume of the incoming audio so that it is as loud as possible (without clipping) before coming into the speaker to be amplified.  With CD/MP3/Bluetooth music playback, it means turning up the playback device.  With microphones and other audio sources, it means moving the mic closer to the performer or turning up the instrument.

This process of properly adjusting signal levels to prevent the introduction of noise is called Gain Staging. Read our guide here to learn more about the Gain Staging process.

I get feedback when I use the microphone. How can I prevent this?

There are a few easy steps you can take that can help reduce the likelihood of feedback.  Check out the following article to learn more:

The sound is coming out distorted. What is happening and how can I fix it?
