When I have Discover Drums USB connected to the software, sound coming from the built in speakers plays at the same time as the sounds from the computer. How do I listen to just the software?
The sound of the software comes directly out of your computer and can be adjusted with your computer's volume control. If you only want to hear just the software, turn the volume on Discover Drums USB all the way down.
When using the software, there is a delay between when I hit a pad and when I hear the sound come out of my computer speakers. How can I fix this?
Click the on the bottom left of the Discover Drums program to bring up the Audio/MIDI Settings menu. There, you can adjust the ‘buffer size’. If you are experiencing "clicks" and "pops", raise this value to a higher rate. As you raise this value, latency increases. If you are experiencing a delay from when you hit a drum, to when you hear the audio, lower the buffer size. The key is to find a setting for your sound card where latency and noise are both at a minimum.
Discover Drums USB transmits data through MIDI channel 10.
Audio / MIDI Settings
- Audio Device type
The computer wants to know where to send the audio coming from the program so that you can hear the audio. In most cases, you can choose Windows Audio for PC, and Core Audio for MAC.
For PC, select Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) This may be slightly different depending on the manufacturer of the PC.
For Mac, select Built in Output.
- Sample Rate
This can be simply described as the overall accuracy of the audio data coming in and out of the program. If you are using your computer's sound card you can leave this at the default setting.
- Audio Buffer Size
In short, this is the amount of time you are giving your computer’s CPU to process the audio. If you are experiencing "clicks" and "pops" when playing back audio, raise this value to a higher rate. As you raise this value, latency increases. If you are experiencing a delay from when you hit a drum to when you hear the audio, lower this value.
Please note there is not one perfect setting for all computers, so trial and error is the best way to find the optimal settings for you.
- Active MIDI inputs
This is where you can select which device will control the Discover Drums software. Make sure Discover Drums USB is connected to your computer via USB before starting up the software and it will show up under this section. Make sure it is checked off.
